Based in London, MachineMax is an award winning and dynamic tech start up aiming to disrupt the construction and mining industries with our leading digital services and solutions, helping them reduce cost, improve productivity and become more sustainable by reducing emissions. We are looking for an eager and ambitious individual with experience of firmware and IoT to join our team of talented engineers, designers and sales and marketing people through the next stage of our growth journey.


Reporting line to the Head of Engineering, this new role will be responsible for all aspects of current and future firmware used by the company on our IoT sensor devices and related hardware.

As Senior Firmware Engineer, you will:

  • Lead work to improve current firmware design and design, test and implement firmware for future use cases and new hardware device types
  • Liaise with the wider Engineering team as well as Product team rand hardware suppliers regarding any technical solutions required to firmware and to deliver our product features
  • Perform troubleshooting for all firmware-related issues, prior to and following customer deployments
  • Deal with any queries or issues around firmware coming from Customer Success, Sales or Operations

Candidate profile

  • Background in IoT / hardware engineering
  • Strong knowledge of embedded firmware and how it works in a commercial context
  • Be proficient in C++
  • Have basic knowledge of Python or a strong interest to learn it
  • Demonstrated track record of finding creative and innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Willing to be flexible, operational and hands on – have a “start up” mindset
  • Comfortable working in a changing environment with some immature processes
  • Curious, ambitious and a team player

Remote working

We are flexible on working location in the UK but would like the person filling this role to be available to come to the office in London Bridge once a week, and also be open to visiting sites around the UK and RoW as required by business needs.

Interview process

  1. Video submission
  2. 30 minutes - phone interview with our People Manager and Head of Product & Design
  3. 1 hour - Ideally face to face – CSM and Head of Product& Design
  4. 45 minutes – Meet with CEO
